Okay. I was skimming some list of Top Movies, and it occurred to me I've missed a significant number of "important" movies. Of even more concern to me, I seem to have missed several funny movies.
I've never seen any of these movies:
- This is Spinal Tap
- Godfather Parts 2 and 3
- Office Space
- Chinatown
- Raging Bull
- Midnight Cowboy
- Rebel Without A Cause
- Goodfellas
- Shampoo
- Police Academy # (pick a number, any number)
I've faked it through life without having seen these movies. I know to laugh if someone refers to "TPS reports" (#3, am I right?) and "Dial it up to 11" (#1). I know there's a big slapping scene in Chinatown, and Midnight Cowboy ends on a bus.
It's become pretty clear I really should sit all the way through Office Space. (I have seen the "flair" scene about 100 times, it must be timed right at the hour mark so I switch to it between shows. Other shows. Like Kennedy Center Honors. Or like - bwahahahaha! I knew I couldn't fake that without laughing.)
So after Office Space, what should I watch?
I vote for Godfather 2...but then, I've only seen 5 of the 10 you listed.

Spinal Tap! Spinal Tap! Spinal Tap!

Chinatown is awesome because of Faye Dunaway's gray teeth and flat flat rear. She was a MOVIE STAR. And she had GREY TEETH.
Also, the slapping scene is truly truly amazing.
Then GoodFellas, because it's a miracle how they get Ray Liotta's skin to look so good in the beginning of the movie. Also, it makes you really want to be a gangster. It's not so bad! They're just looking out for each other! It's all you working stiffs who are the asshole! Hijack a truck across statelines! It's easy!
The rest...meh.

This is Spinal Tap - See it because it's hilarious.
Office Space - See it because you can relate to it. The Bobs are a scream.
Chinatown - Just because it's Jack Nicholson doesn't mean it's a moral imperative for me to see it.
Raging Bull - When they began numbering the Rocky movies, it ruined any meaningful boxing movies for me 4-evah. Even Russell Crowe's fineness won't get me to watch Cinderella Man.
Midnight Cowboy - I've not seen it but probably should.
Rebel Without A Cause - See it if only because it's a classic.
Goodfellas - Good movie; disturbing at times, but Joe Pesci is a scene stealer, IMHO.
Shampoo - Saw it when I was quite young, so I didn't get the appeal. Still don't.
Police Academy # (pick a number, any number) - Saw the original when I was in my 20s, but only because Steve Guttenberg was rather handsome, and "handsome boy" had been my only criteria for movie-going at that time.

My vote for next movie is Chinatown. She does have grey teeth, kinda wierd. But, she is still beautiful. And, Jack so young, it surprised me. Very good flick.
Chinatown is not as heavy as the Godfather moveies, which are also very good and would be next after Chinatown. I'd skip the Police Academy movies. They are funny, but there are others that are more funny. There are other movies that are also just plain better and more worthy of your time. Be a movie snob, it's okay, there are tons of them.
PS-I will watch Chinatown with you, just call, I'll bring the popcorn.

When I read the comment about grey teeth, I knew it had to be Melati. And I was right. Point for me.
As for what movies to see, I haven't seen 7 off that list so I'm not doing much better than you are. Plus I haven't seen Better Off Dead, which apparently is sacriledge. "What? You've never seen Better Off Dead? How did that happen?!?" Uh, I'm a dork? I don't know.

I want to see Chinatown now more than I can say. Her teeth better be grey.

Seriously, all you need is Godfather 2. Better than the first one.

I'll bring in my Office Space DVD. You have to find your own red swingline stapler.

Okay, peeps, Chinatown won. Catherine the Red, when is spa day? Perhaps we could watch it while I'm nursing my pains.
Thanks, SP (if those ARE your real initials), I take this as permission to blow off Godfather 3.
Caroline - Stephen Root's character is possessive about his stapler, right? Really, its almost as if I've seen the movie.

It's a red Swingline, not the Bostitch.
"And if, if they take my stapler, I will, I will set this building on fire."

I haven't seen most of the movies you listed (just Spinal Tap and Office Space). Plus, you can add Gone with the Wind to my list.

Well, so far I'm glad I saw Godfather 2 and Chinatown. Office Space was funny, and Spinal Tap ... was edited to death, I think. Chinatown was terrific, though.
